Whether we still remember what happened on zondag de negenste or not, the film intertwines the memories of two brothers with those of the residents of a care home and, in doing so, tells in a unique way that caring for one another may well be the most essential form of humanity.
Zondag de Negenste is a story about the fragility of our memory, set in a real residential care home. The film offers an authentic and intimate glimpse into the lives of people with dementia. It also takes you into the residents’ own stories and experiences, allowing their voices to be heard quite literally. Through Kat Steppe’s approach, fiction goes one step further. By weaving real people into the fictional story, their true stories are highlighted, and vice versa. This blend creates a powerful viewing experience that deeply moves the audience. Zondag de Negenste not only shows the raw reality of dementia, but also reveals how the strength of human bonds and memories can shape our lives.
